Forgotten - Rememberance Day Poem
Wars of the past are forgotten.
Horrors of war and death
are buried with long dead veterans.
Now these horrors resurface,
only too late,
as we bury ourselves
in trenches.
No Man's Land
lies before us.
Bomb shells and shrapnel
rain above us.
Our only protection
is the mud
and rotting earth,
of which we have dug ourselves into.
This is a war like no other.
No one wins -
The death toll rings long and loud
on all our ears.
Will you forget,
rape our graves,
and soil our deathbeds
with the blood of new wars?
Forget us not - we died for your freedom.
